VA May Not Have Enough Protective Equipment for Second Coronavirus Wave: Official

WEDNESDAY, June ten, 2020 (HealthDay News) — The U.S. Section of Veterans Affairs suggests it may not have sufficient personal protecting machines for health-related staff if you can find a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

At the peak of the pandemic, the VA’s one hundred seventy health-related centers were utilizing 250,000 N95 masks a day, which was a “challenging volume,” the department’s best health and fitness official, Dr. Richard Stone, informed the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee on Tuesday, the Affiliated Press claimed.

At present, the VA has about a thirty-day supply of masks, gowns and other protecting equipment. But the agency demands a sixty-day supply to meet up with rising demand from customers as the VA commences to fully reopen its health-related centers, and it would involve a 6-thirty day period supply to cope with a second wave of COVID-19, according to Stone.

“A long term pandemic wave may test all of us in our preparation,” Stone informed the committee, the AP claimed.

In preparation for a possible second wave, Stone mentioned the VA has additional far more than eighteen,000 health-related staff and will seek the services of far more, and is getting ready four “readiness centers” that will be stocked with personal protecting machines.

He also pointed out that the VA is at present investing $one hundred million a thirty day period on personal protecting machines, as opposed with $ten million a thirty day period in advance of the pandemic, the AP claimed.
